Cabeza Prieta Natural History Association
Ajo-Cabeza Prieta Christmas Bird Count
The Ajo/Cabeza Prieta Christmas Bird Count Circle is 15 miles in diameter and is centered at Cardigan Peak in the Little Ajo Mountains. This of course includes the town of Ajo. The Count for this area usually occurs a few days past Christmas. Anybody is welcome to participate in the count, although inexperienced persons are paired with those with more experience, and a high percentage of the people involved are Association members.
Christmas Bird Count participants are encouraged to list all the bird species that they see during the week before the count. If nobody actually counts some of these listed species on the Count day, the species are entered as "CW" meaning seen only during the count week.
